My stepson has ADHD. Is this hereditary/genetic. I feel my husband presents a lot of the same symptoms. Absent-minded, inability to focus, impulsive. I want my husband to seek some help (at least rule it out). He refuses to do so and laughs at me. It is really difficult because I am always managing my stepson’s behavior and at the same time my husband acts in much of the same way. Should I just let it go or bring it up at my son’s session with psychologist (we have family sessions)

The horse i ride, Johnnie, (he’s an ex race horse, and i do hunter jumper) has alot of nervous energy and is alot to handle. I can handle him, but it’s aggrivating sometimes. So does anyone have some advice on how to calm him down?

Please read this.I am Adult ADHD,disagosed at 35.Ritalin helped me lot,cause I have difficulty in a sense of direction.In Japan,ADHD is still not known,so Doctor gave us Rilarin as Depression,waiting for the day prescribed as ADHD.

almost no medication here.
So,I have to wait concerta come to Japan,till the day,only living tip can be used.my room is mess,no family.
If you have good tip living with ADHD/ADD without crying,please teach me.
and I hope Doctors overseas-from-us will read this article.

As for the OCD she had a thing about closing dores and once she latched on to something that is it. She will not let go. We debated medication but finally had to go with some. She does good as long as the Teacher is standing over her but when the teacher has to attend to another child she will start fidgiting and she has hit children and stuff like that. She is the sweetest child and good most of the time. We are just trying to help her and Do what we can. My mother worries that if she keeps getting in trouble the DHR can take her away from us but I told her Idid not thank that would happen. We just pray and love her.

Our youngest (6) was recently diagnosed with sensory integrative dysfunction and attention deficit hyperactive disorder in June.

In Aug., we started him on Focalin XR 10 mg with our pediatrician. Last week, he switched the dose to 15 mg. The 10 mg was lasting only about 4 or 5 hours.

He was diagnosed by a psychiatrist and has had a psychological assesment and evaluation, etc., etc.

It drives me crazy giving him medicine everyday of his life. I just don’t like it!! We were going to therapy sessions at our local mental health facility (where they diagnosed him) but the sessions were just so vague and nothing specific. (I mean, how many times does a child need to go over the ‘if there’s a bully on the playground-what do we do’ etc.)

He needs therapy sessions that concentrate on his specific needs. But, they can’t seem to offer that………… I’m lost as what to do next. I can’t let him sit on the sidelines of life, but when I let him participate the other children look at him like he’s so weird because of how hyper he is and that he can’t keep his hands to himself. We have a flag football game tonight late and he won’t have any medicine in his system, so it’s gonna be chaos just like the last late game.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? I don’t expect medicine to ‘fix’ anything. I just want him to have a better life.

I had ADHD as a kid but I never took any meds for it because I function very well in most everyday details of life however I am in college again and finding it difficult to focus and not let my mind wonder. What would be a viable solution to this? Would going to a doctor and possibly getting some meds help me focus better without distraction?

I believe that there’s a lot of self help that people with this condition can do. I’ve been checking up as much as possible on the net with the symptoms and they fit me perfectly although right now I am 27 and undiagnosed.
Captn_carrot you’re a complete nob end. It’s a serious problem and I wasn’t looking for someone to make fun of it. Go back to you carrots and talk to them instead.

I’m 20 years old and although this question may seem a little, ‘im to old’ i’m still asking it.
Of course it started in my childhood, all the signs. My parents are a little old fashioned and didn’t realise the effect of ADHD growing up, without treatment. Sort of the brush it off, medication is only if you have an infection or..You get my point?
Now i’m 20 im understanding more how this has effected my life, To low grades to jumping to one job to the other.
Im never settled. Now I have a job,and its getting to the point where my ADHD is annoying me.I love my job but always am unsettled and always getting shouted at for my attention span and hyperness.
I would like to go to the doctor and see if he can recomend anything. Although im doubtful because i am 20, Its not that this ADHD has just come on, Its now that im understanding and wanting to do something about this.
Because im 20, Will something be done? or Brushed under the table filled with excuses.

To be honest i feel somewhat bad, going to the doctors if i don’t have a leg hanging off me. LOL. I know its there job, maybe its my doctor whom im not comfy with. I remember getting my tonsils removed, Random. It took my doctors some what over 6 months and over 20 visits. They just seemed to give me meds which helped for a week then back to the same problem.
I will make an appointment;

Does anyone know the best way to word it, I dont want him to think, I’ve read something online…Im getting paranoid about it. I know some people are like that and because im now 20 he may think because it wasnt treated at a young age…Im getting paranoid. I am a paranoid person anyways, which i think is down to the ADHD also. Ahhh, well thanks for the info guys.
